Korea Eximbank Inks MOU with Korea Industrial Complex Corporation to Promote Exports of SMEs in Korea

□ The Export-Import Bank of Korea (www.koreaexim.go.kr, Chairman Bang, Moon-Kyu, "Korea Eximbank") announced on May 3 that it signed an MOU with Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (CEO Kim Jung-hwan, “KICOX") to promote exports of small-and medium-sized companies in Korea.

 

○ Korea Eximbank Chairman Bang Moon-Kyu met with KICOX CEO Kim Jung-hwan at the headquarters of Korea Eximbank in Yeouido and signed the MOU.

 

 

□ The MOU sets out cooperation between the institutions in areas including ▲ KICOX’s recommendation of promising exporters based in industrial complexes in Korea (global leading companies*, export target companies**, companies in the Smart Green Industrial Complex project***, etc.) to Korea Eximbank, ▲ Korea Eximbank’s preferential support to eligible companies withoperating funds, facility funds, R&D funds, and M&A funds, and ▲ information sharing between the institutions, among other things.

* Global leading companies: SMEs based in industrial complexes in Korea, with high innovation capabilities, growth potential, or market share (301 companies selected as of April)

** Export target companies: Selected among export beginners operating in industrial complexes in Korea (165 companies as of April)

*** Smart Green Industrial Complex: A project for transition to smart and green industrial complexes with higher energy efficiency, corporate innovation, and eco-friendly manufacturing (34,732 companies in 7 industrial complexes) in line with the government’s digital and green new deal initiative

 

○ Korea Eximbank provides diverse financial products to SMEs in Korea, such as loans and guarantees to support their exports, imports, and overseas investments to meet the government's policy to foster SMEs.

 

○ KICOX has been selecting export target companies since 2018 to provide customized support for promising export companies, from corporate diagnosis and export consultation to follow-up measures.

 

 

□ The MOU will allow Korea Eximbank to support the export activities of promising companies in the industrial complexes in Korea and expand financial assistance for them to secure technologies and manufacturing facilities needed to boost their export transactions.

 

○ KICOX plans to help the promising export companies they selected get Korea Eximbank’s preferential financial services by sharing their information and recommending eligible exporters to the bank.

 

○ In addition, KICOX will actively cooperate with Korea Eximbank in the bank's hidden champion initiative*.

* Hidden Champion Initiative: Launched in 2009, the Initiative aims to provide customized financial and non-financial services including management advice to the bank-selected SMEs with advanced technology and growth potential.

 

 

□ After signing the MOU, Chairman Bang said, "We will fully capitalize on the capabilities and experience of Korea Eximbank and KICOX to support promising SMEs to enter overseas markets, and contribute to their digital transformation and low-carbon and high-efficiency energy innovation."

 

 

□ Meanwhile, KICOX chairman Kim remarked, "I hope this MOU will lead to positive results in boosting the exports of the promising companies in the industrial complexes, helping them secure technologies and facilities they need, and the early settlement of smart green industrial complexes."
