Date 2020.05.21 View 11384

The Export-Import Bank of Korea (www.koreaexim.go.kr, Chairman BANG, Moon-kyu, “Korea Eximbank”) announced May 21 that it would provide KRW 350 million worth of Korean coronavirus test kits and quarantine supplies to developing countries in Asia and Africa struggling to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

By cooperating with the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), a public agency of Korea providing government-level healthcare assistance for developing partner countries, Korea Eximbank hopes to provide necessary supplies to Laos, Cambodia, Ghana, Tanzania and Ethiopia, which are priority countries for receiving aid from the Economic Development Cooperation Fund that Korea Eximbank operates.

The Bank’s Chairman, Bang Moon-kyu visited KOFIH, located in central Seoul, and delivered the donation to KOFIH President Choo Moo-jin for the purchase of the quarantine products.

KOFIH will use the money to purchase test kits and protective clothing, and Korea Eximbank and KOFIH employees currently working in the aforementioned developing countries will directly give out the supplies to locals.

Chairman Bang remarked, “Many developing countries are struggling to combat the coronavirus due to the lack of test kits and quarantine supplies,” He added, “I hope our assistance with the quarantine supplies will help the recipient countries overcome the COVID-19 crisis as well as increase the awareness of the competitiveness of Korea’s quarantine systems.”
