The Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Eximbank), the trustee of the Korean government’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), announced that it held a joint seminar with three other aid agencies, the Export-Import Bank of China (CEXIM), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Thailand’s National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) at Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas on September 4.

In the seminar, over 20 senior officials from the four aid agencies participated, including Chief loan officer Hong Sung-hoon of Korea Eximbank, Vice President Saranyu Viriyavejaku of NEDA, Director Ryutaro Murotani of JICA, and Director Sun Xingjian of CEXIM.

Held under the theme of ‘Promoting Cooperation among the Four Asian Agencies,’ the seminar served as a venue to discuss practical financial cooperation plans among the four aid agencies.

Close cooperation among the four agencies is urgently needed as the demand for infrastructure development is surging in Asian developing countries.

The four aid agencies discussed future plans for cooperation by sharing diverse financial cooperation cases in the past, such as transnational large-scale on land infrastructure development project, 6 Bank Group for development in Viet Nam, etc.

In addition, the agencies delved into effective financial cooperation case studies and exchanged opinions on the potential sectors and regions where they could cooperate most effectively among one another.

Chief Loan officer Hong Sung-hoon remarked, “By bringing together the aid agencies from Korea, Japan, China and Thailand, we could tap into our potential for developing infrastructure together and building up connectivity within Asia.”
