Date 2010.08.30 View 29814
Korea Eximbank signed a loan agreement funding USD 51 million to 3 projects, such as the Yenbai Hospital Construction Project, on August 17th at Hanoi, Vietnam.

*EDCF (Economic Development Cooperation Fund)

EDCF supports efforts by developing countries for industrial development and economic stabilization through long-term, low-interest grants and promotes economic exchange with foreign countries. EDCF was established by the Korean government in 1987 and Korea Eximbank is entrusted with operation and management of the fund. As of June 2010, a total of USD 5.62 billion in EDCF funding has been provided to 238 projects in 47 countries.

The Yenbai Hospital Contruction Project aims to build a 500-bed comprehensive medical facility equipped with advanced medical equipment for treatment of serious medical problems such as cancer. The facility will be built in the northwestern region of Vietnam. A total of USD 45 million in EDCF funding will be provided for the project.

Vietnam's northwestern region is dominated by mountains and people in this region with serious health problems must currently travel over 200km to Hanoi for treatment.

The construction of the new hospital will greatly improve the delivery of medical services in the region.

In addition, Korea Eximbank signed a grant provision agreement funding USD 3 million each to the Ha Tin Sung Vocational Middle School Improvement Project and the Kwang Bin Sung Vocational Middle School Improvement Project.

Korea Eximbank is also planned to sign a grant provision agreement funding USD 33 million dollars to the Patent Information System Project on August 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The completion of the project would enable the government of Indonesia to efficiently and quickly manage patent administration such as accepting, review, and deciding on patent applications.

Korea Eximbank supports 35 projects of Vietnam with USD 1 billion, and 17 projects of Indonesia with USD 460 million.
