Solar & Wind Power Seminar for Expansion into Overseas Markets Co-hosted by Korea Eximbank and KNREA

□ Korea Eximbank (www.koreaexim.go.kr, Chairman Yong Hwan Kim) announced that the Bank co-hosted the “Solar & Wind Power Seminar for Expansion into Overseas Markets” with the Korea New & Renewable Energy Association (KNREA) at the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies on April 26 for domestic green companies,.

○ The seminar was attended by over 150 representatives from Korea Eximbank, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE), leading US law firms, and green companies. Seminar topics included green financing assistance policies of the government and Korea Eximbank, measures for expansion into overseas green industry markets including solar and wind power, etc.

□ Director Su Sung Hwan of the New & Renewable Energy Department within MKE stated in his presentation that, “By 2015, the Korean government seeks to develop the solar and wind industries similarly as the semiconductor and shipbuilding industries to make Korea one of the top five leading countries in the new & renewable energy sector.”

□ Tim Callahan and Michael Haun of the leading US law firm, Paul Hastings, stated “The US government is increasing its energy dependency on new & renewable energy through tax benefits and inducements to foreign companies investing in the US market. Such policies present good opportunities to Korean companies, too.”

* The US law firm of Paul Hastings was established in 1951. The firm currently has over 1,000 attorneys in 18 offices around the world offering legal services including services for project financing.

□ Korea Eximbank plans to provide a total of KRW 40 trillion to the green growth industry by 2015 and assist 50 Korean green companies become leading exporters under the “Action Plan for Leading the Green Export Industry.”

○ To this end, the Bank is actively making efforts to identify and support pilot projects applying market-leading financial products such as direct investment, composite finance, independent PF, etc. in order to assist Korean companies secure business opportunities in overseas green markets.

○ Executive Director of Korea Eximbank, Ki Sub Nam stated, “The Bank provided various financial supports to assist domestic shipbuilding and plant companies grow into global corporations. Utilizing the knowledge gained from such experiences, the Bank will implement strategies to simultaneously support the entry of domestic green enterprises into offshore markets and develop domestic market foundation to assist the green sector become Korea’s leading export industry.
