15th EDCF Workshop Hosted by Korea Eximbank

□ Korea Eximbank (www.koreaexim.go.kr Chairman Yong Hwan Kim) hosted the “15th EDCF Workshop” with senior loan officials of seven developing countries for five days, from May 30 to June 3, at Bank headquarters.

○ During the workshop, Korea Eximbank will inform officials from developing countries about the Korean government’s EDCF program and discuss loan policies towards developing countries and aid effectiveness.

※ The EDCF workshop was initiated in 1995 to enhance awareness and understanding of EDCF by loan officials of developing countries. So far, 212 officials from 39 countries have participated in the workshop and discussed strategies for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

□ An official from Korea Eximbank stated, “Through the EDCF Workshop, Korea Eximbank plans to share the Bank’s experience of development and discuss promising EDCF projects with loan officials invited from Africa and Latin America, countries gaining attention as new growth engines of the world. Strengthening economic cooperation will help Korean companies expand into the area and secure new growth momentum.”

□ EDCF has contributed to economic and social development of developing countries and expansion into overseas markets by Korean companies through strengthened economic cooperation with Korea.

○ Established in 1987, EDCF supports industrial development and economic stabilization in developing countries with long-term, low-interest grants for economic and social development projects of developing countries and promotes bilateral economic cooperation. As of April 2011, a total of KRW 6,767.2 billion in EDCF funding has been provided to 251 projects in 46 countries.
