Opening a New Era of International Financial Cooperation

Date 2011.08.02 View 28079
□ Korea Eximbank (www.koreaexim.go.kr, Chairman Yong Hwan Kim) announced that the Bank hosted the “Korea Eximbank Global Conference 2011” to commemorate the 35th anniversary with leading financial institutions on June 23 at Hotel Shilla.

○ Major market players attended the conference including international development financial institutions such as the ADB, export credit agencies of major countries, leading financial institutions such as HSBC and BNP Paribas, international law firms with extensive financial advisory experience such as Allen & Overly and Clifford Chance, as well as major Korean plant contractors.

□ Under the conference topic of global partnership for project development & financing, participants discussed large-scale financing as mega projects such as nuclear power plants and high-speed rail are forecast to increase. Participants also discussed financial cooperation for revitalization of green projects such as solar, wind, and hydro-power.

□ Minister of Strategy and Finance Jaewan Bahk indicated, “As a public financial institution, Korea Eximbank should actively develop new markets and strengthen partnerships with foreign financial institutions to promote overseas project orders.”

□ Chairman Kim stated “This global conference is the first step in cooperation with financial institutions for the support of large projects. In July, the Bank plans to present concrete measures for cooperation to foreign financial institutions which attended the conference.”

□ An official from Korea Eximbank stated, “These days, Korean plant suppliers are shifting their focus from simple construction to value-added investment development projects involving project development, equity participation, construction, and operation. For such larger project scales, it would be difficult for a single financial institution to take full charge of the project. As such, Korea Eximbank will work to expand its network with foreign financial institutions through global conferences.

□ In order to effectively utilize the Bank’s expertise in large-scale overseas project financing, Korea Eximbank will establish the Office of Financial Advisory Services in July and provide comprehensive investment banking services from project discovery to financial advisory services.

□ Aside from these efforts, Korea Eximbank will host the JBIC-Korea Eximbank Joint Seminar on July 24 to further advance financial cooperation between Korea and Japan.
