Warm Winter Expected for Families in Need Near Yeongdeungpo Station

Date 2011.12.13 View 27727
On Nov. 7, representatives from Korea Eximbank (www.koreaexim.go.kr, President & Chairman Yong Hwan Kim) visited a poor neighborhood near Yeongdeungpo Station to provide heating coal as part of the Bank’s community outreach program.

To ensure seniors living alone and in poverty in Yeongdeungpo area have heat this winter, Korea Eximbank Outreach, a volunteer organization of the Bank, donated 60,000 coal briquettes to Briquette Bank (CEO Ki-bok Heo).

During their visit to the community, Chairman Kim and over 30 Bank representatives also carried the coal by hand to six homes where dollies and trucks could not gain access due to the narrow, uneven streets.

Chairman Kim stated, “With the winter fast approaching, I am concerned for those who are unable to afford heating this winter. I hope the coal we have delivered today provides some comfort for the elderly living in this area.”

Korea Eximbank has actively participated in various community volunteer activities to assist marginalized sectors such as the homeless, handicapped, and seniors living in poverty as well as helped multicultural families and North Korean defectors adjust to Korean society.

Relatedly, the Bank announced on Dec. 1 that it will promote the Global Pass Program, a comprehensive support program for global shared growth. As part of the program, the Bank will donate a portion of the profits gained from financing overseas projects of large corporations to assist marginalized sectors such as multicultural families, under a separate name titled Seed of Hope.
