Public donations to the “John Lee Fund” will be used to fund the second part of the project.
For transparent operation of the fund, Father Tae-Young Lee, the brother of Father John Lee, and Venerable Monk Jung-Gak will co-chair the fund. Korea Eximbank, which has expertise in international development cooperation, and KBS will support the operation of the fund.
Public donations raised and all transactions of the fund and will be disclosed on the project’s homepage (www.smiletonj.org).
On the day the project was launched, Korea Eximbank kicked off donations with a contribution of KRW 300 million to the fund.
Chairman of Korea Eximbank Dr. Yong-Hwan Kim stated, “The Smile Tonj Project goes beyond being a cooperative development project to serve as a communication channel between the people of Korea and South Sudan. Successful completion of the project will set a model for not only Korea and South Sudan, but for the world as well.”
Deputy Minister for Finance and Economic Planning H.E. Mary Awaj Jervase Yak responded, “This project to establish healthcare infrastructure for greater public health means so much to the people of South Sudan as they have been scarred by years of civil war.”
Chairman of KBS In-Kyu Kim also commented, “The success of the project will be contingent on the participation and interest of the people. We ask for your support and encouragement so that the spirit of Father John Lee can be spread throughout the world.”
