The Export-Import Bank of Korea (www.koreaexim.go.kr, Chairman Yong Hwan Kim, “Korea Eximbank”) held the first ‘Inter-Korean Cooperation Camp’ for 80 graduate and under-graduate students of Korean universities from November 30 to December 1, at its Yeouido headquarters in Seoul and at its Human Resource Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do.
The event was organized to heighten young people’s interest towards inter-korean cooperation, capitalizing on the agency’s experience of promoting inter-korean exchanges and cooperation as the trustee of the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund for the last 21 years.
The Camp featured diverse events, including an introductory course on the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund, presentations of papers on inter-korean cooperation, and a special guest lecture. Participants who completed the entire course were awarded a certificate signed by the Chairman, along with a souvenir.
Korea Eximbank Chairman Yong Hwan Kim stated in his welcoming remarks, “I hope this event will be a meaningful occasion for young people, who will shape the future of inter-korean cooperation and unification, to share their fresh ideas and insights.”
Seo Yeong Kim, a participant of the Camp, observed, “A variety of very original ideas were actively put forward by participants, which subsequently generated heated debates. It was a valuable opportunity to raise our awareness of the role of Korean Eximbank and the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund, as well as of the issues surrounding inter-Korean cooperation and unification.”
Korea Eximbank has been helping North Korean defectors to build a decent life in South Korea by hiring a North Korean defector as a full-time employee for the first time in its history, holding a sports event attended by North Korean defectors and South Koreans, establishing a one-on-one mentoring relationship between its employees and North Korean defectors, and inviting the Pyongyang Folk Art Troupe to perform at its headquarters.
