Delivering Coal Briquettes to Low-Income Neighborhoods

Date 2013.10.29 View 29392
The Export-Import Bank of Korea (www.koreaexim.go.kr, Chairman Kim Yong-hwan, “Korea Eximbank”) announced on October 29 that 30 of its Seed of Hope Volunteers including Chairman Kim Yong-hwan delivered coal briquettes to 200 households of senior citizens living alone in the low-income village of Junggyebon-dong.

The Seed of Hope Volunteer Corps, Korea Eximbank’s volunteer organization, hand-delivered about 1500 briquettes to 10 households of elderly people living alone located along narrow alleys, where even wheelbarrows could not enter.

In particular, the Corps’ Goodwill Ambassador and female world boxing champion Choi Hyun-mi joined the effort, along with KLPGA golfer Heo Yoon-kyung.

The Volunteer Corps also donated 40 thousand briquettes (worth KRW 20 million) to the Briquette Bank (Chairman Heo Gi-bok) to help elderly residents in Junggyebon-dong spend a warm winter.

The Seed of Hope Volunteer Corps has been donating briquettes, among other types of volunteer work, to senior citizens living alone since 2011.
