A Fair Start for Multicultural Children

Date 2014.03.21 View 32179
The Export-Import Bank of Korea (www.koreaexim.go.kr, Chairman Duk-Hoon Lee, "Korea Eximbank") announced on March 21 that it donated KRW 45 million to support culture and art projects for muticultural families run by WeStart Campaign Center.

Korea Eximbank Chairman Lee Duk-hoon delivered the donation to WeStart Campaign Center Secretary General Shin Dong-Jae at the bank's headquarters in Yeouido on the afternoon of March 20.

WeStart Campaign is a civil movement animated by the motto that "We" should all support the "Welfare (W)," "Education (E)," and health of underprivileged children so that they can have a fair "Start" in life.

We Start Campaign Center is running programs on the community level to help multicultural youths and immigrant women develop their talents through culture and arts education.

The contribution made by Korea Eximbank will be used to pay for the operating expenses of two performing arts companies, Collage and Muse, which respectively received KRW 30 million and KRW 15 million.

Collage is a tap dance company of children from multicultural families in Suwon, Korea, established in April last year with Korea Eximbank's support.

Muse, a musical band also established with Korea Eximbank's support last month, consists of immigrant women and multicultural youths in Gangjin, Jeollanam-do, Korea.

As he made the donation, Chairman Lee said, "Korea Eximbank has endeavored to provide the kind of support that makes a real difference in the education and employment of people from multicultural backgrounds through the Seed of Hope program. We will continue to run diverse programs aimed at helping multicultural youths and immigrant women become successful members of society."

Last year, Korea Eximbank donated vehicles to Multicultural Family Support Centers nationwide, taught after-school classes and economics classes for multicultural youths, donated money to a clinic for foreign workers, and hosted the 'Love Sharing Global Village Festival,' spending a total of KRW 800 million in multicultural family-related support activities.
